# Looking for a Circle _alternative_?

Which platform should run your paid community? It comes down to one trade-off: rent or own.

## What a hosted platform does well

A hosted platform like Circle is the easy choice. You’re up fast.

## Where your member list lives

On a hosted platform, your member list lives on the platform’s servers.

## What changes when you own the site

Owning always made more sense on paper, but the setup was the problem. That friction is what sent most creators to a hosted platform.

Now you tell MemberPress.ai what you want, and it builds the membership levels and drafts the pages for you.

Your site. Your member list. Your payment relationship.

When your first member pays, the money goes to your own payment account.

## You say it once. Opal handles the rest.

Connect your site and tell Opal what you want. She sets it up, so the list and the relationship stay yours.
