Between client work and everything else, the site sat there — not because the plugin didn’t work, but because launching a membership site takes time he didn’t have and no developer to hand it to. That’s the WordPress “car in a box” problem: you get everything you need, and then you have to build it yourself, hire someone, or find a friend who can.
