Credits: what content generation costs

Credits are the meter for one thing: content generation. When MemberPress.ai drafts a post, a page, or a course for you, that draft costs credits.

In the MemberPress.ai app, content generation is part of the paid plan (see Plans). In wp-admin, when the plugin runs its AI through MemberPress.ai, some plugin AI actions draw credits too, on any plan. Your history labels those Plugin action.

What spends credits

GenerationCost
A blog post or page draft50 credits
A course — outline, lessons, and quizzes together200 credits
A single lesson or quiz drafted on its own50 credits

A course is one price, no matter how many lessons it has. The lessons and quizzes MemberPress.ai writes as part of that course draw on the course’s credits, not your balance again. See Building courses.

You’re charged only when a generation succeeds. The cost is set aside when the job starts and taken from your balance when the draft is ready. If a generation fails, nothing is charged.

What never spends credits

  • Asking the advisor questions in the MemberPress.ai app, and the site analyses and insights it gives you.
  • Syncing your site, on a schedule or on demand.
  • Building memberships, rules, and other writes on your site’s own endpoint (those preview as a dry run) — see Which changes ask you to confirm.
  • Queuing a topic you plan to write. Credits are spent when you generate it, not when you add it.
  • Sending a finished draft, course, lesson, or quiz to your site. The credits were spent when it was generated.
  • Reading back anything you’ve generated.

Your balance

Every plan has a monthly allotment that resets on the first of each calendar month, and unused credits from one month don’t carry over to the next. The allowance attached to each plan is set in product, and the Credits page is the number to trust.

Every account also starts with a one-time bonus grant that never expires.

Generation always draws on the monthly allotment first, so bonus credits are only used once the month’s allotment is gone. The Credits page in your MemberPress.ai account shows the two side by side, names the day your allotment resets, and lists every credit you’ve spent, labelled with what it was for.

The Credits page, showing the combined credit balance, this month's allotment with its reset date, bonus and purchased credits that never expire, and a history where each spend is labelled with what it was for

When you run out

If a draft would cost more than you have, MemberPress.ai stops with “Not enough credits for this generation”. Nothing is generated and nothing is charged. Your allotment comes back on the first of the next month.

Each feature also has its own monthly usage limit, separate from credits. A positive balance doesn’t override those limits, so a generation can occasionally be refused even with credits to spare.

Buying more

Buying credits is on the paid plan. When credit packages are offered, the plugin’s Credits tab in wp-admin has Buy more credits. Purchased credits join your bonus credits and never expire.

Generating from your own AI client

If you drive MemberPress.ai from Claude or another AI client connected to your MemberPress.ai account, content generation started there uses the same balance. The generation tool states its credit cost in its own description, so your client can see the price before it calls, and the same rules apply: the cost is set aside when the job starts and charged only if it succeeds. Anything you generate that way appears on your Generations page too, so you can read it back or send it to your site later. See Using your own AI client.

FAQ

What do credits pay for?

Content generation: drafting a blog post, a page, or a course. In wp-admin, some plugin AI actions draw credits too and show in your history as Plugin action. What happens when I run out?

Generation stops with a not-enough-credits message. Nothing is generated and nothing is charged. Your monthly allotment comes back on the first of the next month.

Do credits expire?

Your monthly allotment resets on the first of each calendar month and unused credits don't carry over. Bonus credits never expire.
